Well we’re now into December and the Christmas rush has begun. But first a quick update of the last month. The 15th November saw me celebrating my 30th birthday with a little house party. More people turned up than I expected and thank you to everyone who could make it. I’ve still been too lazy to take the pics off the camera but I will do it soon. Overall it was a messy affair thanks to Ben and Julianne (and whoever else was involved) making me a lethal combination of spirits with a splash of coke. You’d think at 30, I’d have the intelligence not to have drunk it, but no, 30 min later I passed out upstairs on the floor. On the plus side they waited until somewhere past midnight before giving it to me so it didn’t spoil the party (just my Sunday). Since then it’s been quite quiet. Saffron has had to work most weekends and I’ve saved money by playing the new world of warcraft expansion.
Wow it’s been a long while since my last update. Well we replaced that leaky radiator and my parents came up and helped with the garden. Still more to do but I think most of it can wait until the spring now. The main thing is that we’re in and the house is becoming a home.
Saffron started work at Morrison’s and has since burnt her arm (wrist to elbow) when she slipped over. It doesn’t look pretty and she is having dressings changed regularly. At the moment it’s too early to tell if it will scar.
It finally happened. Last Friday (26th September) we moved home and oh what fun we had.
After picking up the Luton van and dropping the dog off at the kennels on Thursday, Salli and Perry arrived at 8:30am to help us move. We owe them a lot for all their help and if we ever move again we will definitely get more people. If you do read this, thank you both so much for all your help over this last week. I think everyone accumulated a few bruises or cuts during the day moving stuff and by the evening we were all knackered. Ok, we were knackered long before the evening, but that’s when we all finally gave up. We were lucky it was such a nice day as we didn’t have enough van space, so we made a couple of trips to the new house, leaving bits in the garden. We got the keys for the new house as soon as we handed ours over which surprised me as I think everyone was expecting at least an hour delay. The only problem we had (except the lack of manpower) was that the people leaving the new house took until 2:30pm to get out and I had to get the van back by 6pm. We also couldn’t get the 3-seater sofa upstairs to the lounge and in try to do so I put a nice big hole in the wall.
On Sunday, I managed to convince Darren to come round and help me move the smaller sofas upstairs. Beer always seems to work well as a bribe / reward but here is a big thank you as well. Salli also came round to help Saffron we cleaning, etc. and by the end of Sunday the house was more liveable.
The rest of this week has been unpacking, cleaning, tidying and finding all the little things that need repairing etc. The latest is a leaking radiator which looks like it needs replacing. It’s going to take a while but we’ll get there eventually and we’re both really happy. I’ll take some pics and upload them when I find the camera. Not sure where it is at the moment.
Last Friday Saffron and I went to see Nickelback perform at the O2 arena and it was a fantastic concert. The hard rock group Staind started the evening off and although I’m not a huge fan they did play 2 songs that I knew and they gave a great performance. Nickelback came on around 9pm and played songs mainly from their new album as well as a couple of classics too. The trademark launchers were used to fire t-shirts into the crowd and the pyro was very good with flames shooting up from the stage and explosions going off. They kindly shared glasses (well plastic cups) of beer with the audience by throwing them for people to catch. The majority inevitable sprayed all over the crowd but surprisingly a couple of people did catch them and didn’t spill (lucky buggers). The atmosphere was great and we’d definitely like to see them perform again. We left as fast as possible so we could get into the Tube system and catch the last train at Kings Cross back to Royston. I took some pictures and video on Saffron’s camera but no idea as yet how they turned out as we’ve been packing like mad for our house move tomorrow.
As we’re doing it ourselves I’ll probably need a good local chiropractor if anyone knows one.
Well I just had the last 2 weeks off work which was nice. The idea was that we’d be moving home however this didn’t occur. As it stands we have no idea when / if this will happen.
I spent the time cleaning up the place, getting rid of some old junk, emptying the loft etc. All needed but not exactly relaxing
We did go to my parents and went for a ride on the Windsor Wheel. Played ten pin bowling, saw the new Batman movie and took a couple of day trips out and about Cambridgeshire trying out country pubs.
Another busy week. The weekend kicked off with us finally buying a Nintendo Wii and Wii Fit. I must admit it’s a lot of fun and so far neither of us has become bored.
Sunday we went to Saffron’s parents for a BBQ which was nice and we had a good catch up.
On Monday we met our solicitor and everything is on track with the move. Hopefully we’ll get some more news soon.
Yesterday we met up with some friends in Cambourne and went to the pub quiz. I think we all discovered that while we listen to music regularly we don’t pay attention enough to know the song title and / or artist. Still it was a laugh and I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
No plans for the weekend as yet but personally I’m looking forward to a lie-in.
Overall it was a good weekend. Antoni, Lindsey and baby came up to visit. After the living room was taken over by baby toys, we tried by going into Cambridge but the weather wasn’t co-operating so we didn’t stay more than a few hours. Antoni brought his Nintendo Wii up with Mario Kart, Sports, and the Wii Fit. I’ve never really had a go on the Wii but I was impressed. I think I might invest in one if there is anything left after the move. I also secretly recorded Antoni doing the hola hoop game on the wii fit; it’s hilarious to watch, but I promised I wouldn’t upload it to youtube. At least not yet anyway.
Saturday evening we went out for dinner at the Golden Bull pub / hotel in Boxworth. I haven’t been there for a couple of years but the food was really good and they have a beautiful garden.
Sunday was an odds and ends day. Saffron’s parents (Perry and Sally) very kindly came over with a van and helped ship a couple of sofas we bought into storage. Not sure how we’re going to get them in the new place yet, but we’ll cross that proverbial bridge when we get there.
Well it’s been a couple of weeks now since my last update and truth be told, not much as happened. Saffron is now actively looking for a nanny job in the Cambourne / Cambridge area, while we continue to save as much as possible for when we hopefully complete on the new house. We’ve also started to pack away some of the non-essentials so regular raids to acquire boxes have begun.
At the weekend I went paintballing and got shot quite a few times in the neck. Yes it hurt a lot, and my neck swelled up beautifully for several days; still the body’s ability to heal itself is a wondrous thing.
We got the offer accepted on the house, now it’s just a matter of waiting for mortgage approval, searches, etc. so hopefully in the next month or 2 we will complete and finally move. Last week was Saffron’s nans birthday, so we went round to say hello and give presents. At the weekend we went to a village fate organised by my aunt / uncle to raise money for their charity. The weather held out and we had a great time. My aunt / uncle were actually given donations to stop their duet together on the karaoke machine. To be fair they were terrible but hats off to them for at least doing it. Our diet was shot to hell as expected with burgers, curry and then out to the harvester with my parents in the evening.
Sunday we went to celebrate my friend Antoni’s birthday. He turns 29 today, so we went out to an Italian restaurant in Egham for lunch. We had a good time and everyone over ate. It was great to catch up as it’s been a while since we last saw them.
On Friday Saffron took and passed the last of her ECDL modules…hooray!….She’s now qualified, very proud, and ready to put her new skills to some use.
Well it’s been a busy week. We’ve found a house we like, so now it’s just a matter of negotiating the right price.
On Saturday I went paintballing and couldn’t have had a more disastrous run. Firstly, I forgot to wear my contacts and also forgot to take my mask (a great start). Next the battery in my gun ran out mid game just as I charged up to their base. With no way to defend myself I took some quite painful hits. Punters love to overkill walk-on’s although if I were in their place I’d make sure the guy with his own equipment was really out too.
Saturday afternoon I went into Cambridge and finally bought myself a bike. It’s nothing fancy, and Saffron and I had a laugh peddling around the back roads of Cambourne. Also discovered how truly unfit I am
In the evening we decided to try out the China Moon Restaurant in Papworth Everard. Its previous incarnation as an Indian wasn’t very good, but Saffron and I were both really impressed with both the quality of the food and the service. Overall we’d definitely recommend it.
